What an actioned packed 9 weeks we have had Art...Throughout the term we have been learning about creating different shades and tones. We used these skills to create a variety of art. All this hard work resulted in some amazing self-portraits. We spent a lot of time mixing paint to get the perfect colour. Seed2Table...Another highlight has to be Seed2Table. It was exciting being able to finally harvest the vegetables we planted last term. We were lucky to have a wonderful team of adults to make it happen. Spanakopita Pie was an absolute hit! Joy also worked alongside Brenda to teach us about the parts of plants and parts of flowers. Panekiretanga...We have spent a lot of time unpacking what excellence looks and sounds like. We were able to put this learning into practice during our weekly discovery. We have learnt about how our words and actions affect others. Maths..."Wow maths is actually fun!" Is a phrases we've heard many times this term. We have made maths hands-on and practical. We love our new dog bones to help us practise our basic facts.
First Steps has great overviews which has everything you need to teach. Data squares for parent night - Have a range of sets of data to sort, different ways of sorting venn diagrams and tables, labels, sample hypothesis, etc. Parents & kids sit down and have a go at sorting the data & reflecting on their hypothesis. Have another go with a different hypothesis. Have a sample template for parents to take home to make their own for their families with their own questions. Science is a great way of linking stats - looking at data - not necessarily looking at graphs.
Using a strip to proportionally graph where 20 cube flicks went for each pen. They can then easily be made into a box and whisker graph to compare pens/cubes.
For earlier stages, kids could have numbers up the side with shot glasses up the side to put the cube. Use coloured squares/multi link cubes, beads to show graph, data, then a strip graph, then a pie graph. |
