This was a really beneficial session with Kerri. Next term will I have a group of 5 students who have not yet made the connection between letters and the sounds they make. We will follow this approach.

It is always good to moderate - especially vertically across the school. From the moderation session, I have realised that I am consistently too hard on my scoring in regards to ideas & organisation. I will now go back through my samples to double check these before entering them on e-asTTle.
Key Points for me:
A lot of my students lack grit & determination. Not just in maths but in all areas. As soon as something isn't easy they want to give up. However during free play, students often are faced with a problem that isn't easily solved. It is during this time that I see students collaborate to work out possible solutions. They often have to try a number of different ways before they experience success. I think through play I will teach students about 'The Learning Pit'. Hopefully once they start to understand the importance of mistakes & challenges, they will start to approach other learning areas with a growth mindset. This term our science focus has been to observe. Throughout the term the students have become more specific about what they notice.
Our science is also inspiring our writing. It is cool to see my class are sharing their curiosity about science with the other students in Poutokomanawa.
Could you please be prepared to:
By addressing concerns - I have consistent standards for all of my students. When needed I address the individuals rather than a blanket telling off to all of the class.
How could we share this message with our students to develop haututangaa within our team?
First we will respond to the reading I have attached for you in this email. Please consider and be ready to discuss:
This will be followed by some workshopping to help us collectively answer the following questions:
Questions to reflect on
With older students I also got them to use the writing matrix to identify their writing level & set themselves goals. Also with older students I have always handed back maths knowledge tests and reading running records. This made it possible for students to identify goals. They were then able to use this information to inform what workshops to attend.
